Dentistry is developing rapidly as other medical fields. Technology plays a major role in all fields. CAD CAM Dentistry in particular is a technology that has been a huge leap forward for dental professionals and patients alike. OPG is another important device in the dental field.
Let’s first see the full form of CAD CAM and OPG
CAD - Computer-aided design
CAM - computer-aided manufacturing
OPG - Orthopantomography
CAD CAM are software programs that help professionals perform complex dental procedures. The CAD CAM was found during the 1960s but the recent advancement made the process simpler, quicker and more accurate. This technology can finish the restoration procedures of ceramics, including dental crowns, veneers, bridges, inlays, onlays.
The CAD CAM created the 3D image of your teeth by scanning them. The design then guides the mailing machine to carve the restoration from the solid block of restorative material which will become the basis for your tooth restoration process.
Phases of restoration
The whole process takes around 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the complexity of the case. This technology requires less time and effort than the traditional method.
Benefits of CAD CAM
CAD CAM has its benefits and negatives. Not every tooth can be treated so talk to your dentist for the best options.
Orthopantomography is a scanning device that gives a panoramic or wide view of the lower face. It can display teeth on both jaws in one image. It also offers a view of the jawbone and the temporomandibular joint, which connects the jaw to the rest of the skull.
OPG X-rays are similar to other X-rays. With the blast of low-level radiation, images can be extracted. This is commonly used if the dentist plans on doing orthodontic treatment, to detect the presence or evaluate the development of wisdom teeth, to examine the jawbone, or for a general overview of the patient’s dental health.
